Characteristic to the work of Philip Maltman, this piece is made from large, free and expressive brushstrokes. This floral motif is seen in several pieces from the series A Flower of the Mountain. It is a very striking abstracted image that seems simultaneously to evoke the flower and the landscape that it lies in, creating the impression that we are looking closely into the flower, whilst looking outwards onto the mountain. The negotiation between looking inwards and outwards is very well captured. This piece is to be exhibited in Maltman’s solo show in June 2022.
