    The southern Burmese city of Pegu (ancient Hamsavati) was one of the capitals of the western Mon Kingdom. It has a rich heritage of metal-smithing and during the early part of the twentieth century British Colonial administrators commissioned local craftsmen to create bronze figurines. Subjects included portrayals of Burma’s tribal minorities, boys riding water buffaloes and people engaged in various occupations.
