In Die Monarch und die Zukunft, Jan Böhmer envisions an impossible encounter between two
figures suspended in time: an astronaut and a woman from the future. Standing side by side in an undefined, almost dreamlike space, they appear close yet separated by invisible dimensions.

The monochrome, fading astronaut contrasts with the vibrant, luminous woman in yellow,
embodying the tension between past and future, memory and possibility. Böhmer plays with the
poetic ambiguity of whether these two figures truly see each other, or whether they merely coexist in parallel worlds.
The work marks an early shift in the artist’s practice, as he moved away from spray techniques
toward a richer mixed-media approach, combining alcohol-based paints, oil pastels, and layered textures. Die Monarch und die Zukunft becomes both a sci-fi reverie and a meditation on connection - the impossible space where two eras, or two souls, might almost meet.
