What began as an impulsive gesture becomes a layered reflection on desire, dominance, and the tension between the human and the animal world.
At the center of the composition, a red female figure lies across the back of a buffalo, a primal image of power and surrender. In front of them stands a white cat with the inscription “Fat Cat,” a symbol of irony and distance, watching the scene with detached calm. The contrast between the sensuality of the woman, the raw strength of the animal, and the absurd stillness of the cat creates a surreal, dreamlike tableau.
Böhmer’s painting captures the moment when control dissolves into instinct, when reason gives way to emotion. The thick textures, spontaneous brushwork, and bold palette turn the surface into a psychological landscape, where humor and vulnerability coexist.
Untitled is not about meaning as much as about impulse. It is a visual confession, a record of the artist’s own loss of control, and a celebration of the freedom that emerges when creation replaces intention.
