A large close-up face painted on the artist’s studio-engineered fiberglass mesh. Hand-ground pigments in deep reds, violets and ochres are layered and scraped to create a tactile field where the features appear and recede. The faint grid of the mesh remains visible in places and lets light travel across the surface, so certain passages brighten or dim as the viewer moves. A thin yellow arc at the left edge and pale lilac tones at the top introduce temperature shifts that guide the eye around the composition. The work sits between figuration and abstraction and belongs to Callejas’s ongoing inquiry into how recognition happens over time. Materials are prepared in the studio from pure Colombian pigments with bespoke binders, giving the painting a precise physical register.
