This close-up portrait is built on the artist’s studio-engineered fiberglass mesh. Hand-ground pigments in blues, violets and cool whites are layered and lightly scraped so the features gather and dissolve across the surface. In several highlights the faint grid of the mesh remains visible, letting light move through the weave and activate latent passages as the viewer changes position. A cooler temperature around the eyes contrasts with warmer olive notes in the background, guiding the gaze diagonally from brow to mouth and along the right shoulder. The work stands between figuration and abstraction and forms part of Callejas’s ongoing inquiry into how recognition unfolds in time. Materials are prepared in the studio from pure Colombian pigments and bespoke binders, giving the surface a precise, tactile register.
