A large, close-up portrait built on the artist’s studio-engineered fiberglass mesh. The translucent grid holds layered deposits of pure pigments sourced in Colombia, ground and bound by the artist. Warm umbers and cool whites settle into a textured field where features appear and recede; small shifts of light bring forward latent passages, at times recalling a double exposure. The work sits between figuration and abstraction, part of Callejas’s ongoing series exploring how recognition unfolds over time. The mesh support adds tensile depth and a subtle shimmer as one moves around the painting, encouraging slow looking.
