• JAN BÖHMER

Jan Böhmer (b. 1990, Voitsberg, Austria) lives and works in Graz. A self-taught artist, he approaches painting as both a way of thinking and a way of feeling, where instinct and emotion take on a physical presence through the act of making.

He works mainly on large canvases, constructing each element himself with great care. From the wooden frames to the raw, textured surfaces, every step is part of the process. His technique combines acrylic paint with industrial pigments and graffiti inks, creating vibrant and tactile compositions.

At first glance, his paintings may seem chaotic, but behind that energy lies a precise and deliberate rhythm. The surfaces are rough and distinctive, marked by layers of color, texture and gesture. His use of bright tones, abrupt contrasts and sometimes cartoon-like figures gives his works an unmistakable intensity, moving freely between abstraction and figuration.

For Böhmer, each painting preserves the memory of its own making. The traces, imperfections and material density are not hidden but embraced as signs of authenticity. His work invites the viewer to come closer, to feel the tension between control and spontaneity, and to experience the raw vitality that defines his artistic language.
